The Campaign

Opening on Honda’s robot, ASIMO, the camera reveals a line-up on a runway. Motorbikes give way to the new HR-V, tension builds as the driver of the Type-R kisses a good luck charm. We move from the NSX, to the HondaJet before flames burst from two F1 cars and we see from above the shape of a space rocket at launch. Honda’s heritage and space iconography is woven throughout the film: The picture of an original NSX; McLaren-Honda’s Jenson Button and the voice of Ayrton Senna; cinematic details and the climatic classical music that was carried on Voyager 1.

Creative Execution

Honda 'Ignition' is inspired by space travel. It pays homage to the human curiosity and engineering endeavour required to achieve success in space. Our sound was designed to accentuate this theme as we moved through the Honda products featured in the film. The soundscape builds in power and intensity as we edge ever closer to our 'launch'. As we journey through, we slip into surreal sci-fi audio worlds within the vehicles, each with it's own sonic identity and story. These worlds are juxtaposed against the power and ferocity of the outside elements that represent the power of our vehicles and their anticipated launch. To complete the theme, we have our mission control voice guiding us towards the final countdown and our use of classical music pieces that were etched into the Voyager 1 Probe's golden record. Never, relenting, the sound design propels you through the film and heightens the senses as we embark with Honda on their voyage of discovery.
