The Campaign
Sky Sports takes fans back in time as Thierry Henry travels through 23 years of Premier League history. The former Arsenal striker walks through some of Sky’s greatest Premier League moments – reliving the joy and pain of the best league in the world with the players, managers and fans of the day. This unique film celebrates an unprecedented historical archive and Sky Sports’ unrivalled coverage. Watch Thierry as he runs alongside Eric Cantona at Old Trafford, pokes fun at Roy Keane in the Highbury tunnel or comes face to face with his younger self when Arsenal won the title at White Hart Lane.
Creative Execution
Bringing this film to life required us to push the boundaries of what can be achieved by combining live action and post-production techniques when working with archival footage.
Within every shot there is an intricate marrying of footage we shot of Thierry with the pre-existing Premier League moments, and no shot escapes this.
Working across a timeframe of 23 years meant having to embrace a complex variety of qualities, resolutions, frames, and camera angles. So in order for Thierry to appear photo realistically in every shot we needed to replicate each camera move exactly, utilising motion control techniques to ensure the perfect conditions and lighting, particularly with respect the time of day and shadows, to match up the new and old film.
Rather uniquely with this production the edit was locked and client approved before anything was shot.
With some archive shots having such wide and high angles, we quickly discovered that shooting in a football stadium was the only way to successfully replicate each moment in camera with Thierry.
The film was shot over four days in Spain, followed by a six weeks of intensive post production in London.
