The Campaign
On average teenagers spent over 20 hours a week playing games on their devices.
That's another 20 hours with no physical activity. Lack of movement and an inactive lifestyle is a growing problem among young people and gaming is a major part of the issue.
As a developer of branded games, McDonalds wanted to inspire a shift in the gaming industry. Move Update is the world's first environment turning real life data collected by fitness apps
into mobile games bonuses. All you have to do is connect the game with your fit app account - today it works with RunKeeper, Fit Bit and Strava.
From now on, the more you move in real life the more powerful, faster and stronger you become in the games.
We created an universal open source code called McDonald's Move Update that converts data from every activity and discipline into bonuses and power-ups in games.
For example 3km run, 34 minutes of skateboarding, or one match of beach volleyball
will get you more time in logical game 'Lumberjack Returns' while 28 minutes of biking will freeze your targets for 10 seconds in 'Wrap it!' or change a drop of ketchup into more powerful drop of mayo in 'Frykanoid' or slow down hungry enemies in 'Chikker Defense'.
The possibilities are endless.
We're currently working on implementation of Move Update into commercial games including 'Xyber Mech' from One2Tribe, 'Omnomster' from MadeItApp and mobile blockbuster 'Godfire: Rise of Prometheus' by Platige Image and Vivid Games.
We created an universal open source code called McDonald's Move Update that converts data from every activity and discipline into bonuses and power-ups in McDonald's games. We encourage all the game developers to implement the code in their own games, it's available for free as an open source project on GitHub platform - github.com/moveupdate.
