Brief Explanation
The client is a new creative multi disciplined shop that started in April 2015. With the motto "We Create Stuff", the agency´s goal is to work on creative problem solving not only for paying, traditional marketing clients, but also on society, cultural and humanitarian issues. The founder is well known in the scandinavian market for pushing borders and experimenting with new expressions across all known and unknown media. He is one of the highest awarded creative directors in the region. Thye company would like to be known as a down to earth, playful, open minded, cooperative and exciting creative company.
The Brief
Here´s the company´s brief to the chosen graphic designer/illustrator/digital developer:
"It´s quite simple, really. We want a logo, a visual identity and a web/mobile site that is outrageously different from all minimalistic ad agency/design agency/photographers etc we possibly could think of - and that give you guys goosebumps.
And we mean it: Post your response and first drafts on our website under construction, don´t send emails, don´t call, we won´t have meetings.
Absolutely all correspondence, proposals, comments from us etc will happen live and unfiltered on our website."
How the final design was conceived
From the brief to final result, the design process - which always takes place between closed doors - was wide open for everyone to follow. Not one email, one meeting or one phone call took place between the company and the graphic developers. They posted their first proposals directly on the website, and the company responded on the website. The design company started working with solid wood from the beginning, and soon the whole process turned into this giant workshop, where architects, carpenters, truck drivers etc got involved. People paid attention to the process via social media posts and on the website itself. The goal of not only create a different visual identity, but that the WAY of creating a different visual identity, was soon reached. A short time after the process was put out in the open, Creativity-Online and blogs picked up, and the international attention fueled the process with even more energy. The final result (if there ever will be a final result...) is the result of jumping into the unknown, challenging comfort zones, and a big creative collaboration with the world watching along the way.
Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
The final design - and the design process - has - on a shoestring budget - shown the norwegian and scandinavian market the values of the company. It has shown innovation, playfulness, creative joy, collaboration skills without mentioning these words once. The company has grown from the two founders to a staff of six, in just a few weeks, and the creative process of developing the company´s own visual language, has been the most powerful new biz tool so far in the founders history.
But most important. The company, the graphic designers and developers, all the people involved, never had as much fun and surprises on any other project. And that gives a hell of al lot creative energy.
