The Campaign
This is a true story about the celebration that fans bring to their favourite athlete. Tom Meeusen, a young talented Belgian cyclist tells about how he went through the darkest period of his career. He was accused of taking doping and during this trail period his performances went downhill. He even thought about quitting. He tells about his fans who created a special “Tom Meeusen turn” on the cyclocross track. The film combines his story, mixed with his fans’ point of view. They tell how they always believed in him and how they decided that they had to do something to show he could count on their support. They tell their side of the story and how they made the “Tom Meeusen turn” during a race.
Tom Meeusen even testifies that this act of his fans really was a turning point in his career. He suddenly realised that he was not alone, that his fans stood behind him. And from that point on, he started to give more than he had ever given before. His career went uphill again, thanks to his fans. The story combines testimonials that were shot recently, together with images from sports archives.
