The Campaign
The film starts off with beautiful nature shots of the ocean, supported by a warm voice-over.
While we see footage of a great whale, balletically swimming through the water, the VO speaks as if it's the whale talking.
" There was a time when I ruled the oceans, a big fish cherished by the whole world..."
The dramatic music in the background swells as we move toward the end of the movie.
All of a sudden we cut to a wide shot of the Norwegian fjords, we see a man in a kayak, wearing a red life-vest. As we move closer, we see him arriving to shore and getting out of the boat. At this moment we realize that all this time the VO wasn't talking about the whale(s), but about this man in the kayak: David Hasselhoff
"There's around 10.000 whales left in the ocean. But there's only one Hoff left in the world".
The films shows the ambiguity between endangered species that need saving due to the fact that there's only a few remaining, as opposed to The Hoff who is truly the last of his kind and needs saving even more.
