Creative Execution
On the basis of an exemplary daily routine, users can find out how transparently they travel through the Internet and what personal information they disclose through their decisions.
In the course of the animation-style test, users have to make decisions that always impact on the future course of the test and on their individual results. Various interactive decision-making possibilities give the test variety and increase its playful character.
The threatening orange/grey look of the interactive film is oriented towards the corporate color of the Hamburg-based startup company Protonet, which acts as initiator.
The multi-stage campaign's initial aim is to raise user awareness regarding the transparency in the handling of personal data. In the next step, the user is meant to become active and then initiate a change in the law by signing a petition on the online platform www.change.org.
To remain authentic there is no tracking on the whole campaign platform, but within a very short time almost 60.000 users signed the petetion. Even the german and international press deticated numerous articles about this important issue.
Large data scandals like the revelations of whistle-blower Edward Snowden have triggered large press coverage and an outcry among the general population in Germany. Nevertheless, most people continue to use the often free online services of the major Internet companies as before. We wish to combat this circumstance with a online initiative.
The non-profit campaign "Free your data" has made it his mission to bring about more transparency in the handling of personal data and a change in German law. The aim is to require all Internet companies with more than one million recurring users to make available, at the user's request, all its associated data for free.
The online test "How China Are You?" was conceived as an interactive film and placed on a microsite of the campaign platform www.freeyourdata.org. Based on the scores thus determined, users can find out whether they still have control over their personal data.
