Creative Execution

With the nearing date of 21st of October 2015, the media buzz was getting higher and higher. So prior to the date, we released three short clips showing how Doc Brown inspired our engineers for the F015’s development. The videos were released one after another on Mercedes-Benz’ social media channels.

Within only a few days, the videos garnered more than 3 million views on Facebook and YouTube combined and were featured on a numerous relevant (tech)-blogs that directly touched on the F015’s futuristic technique. Thus, Mercedes-Benz emphasized its technological leadership in autonomous driving one more time.

The autonomously driving F015 „Luxury In Motion“ is Mercedes-Benz’ vision of the car of the future. The objective was to communicate the concept car to a tech-savvy target group and to strengthen Mercedes-Benz’ technological leadership in the automotive branch. In order to engage our target group in an online context, we chose a topic that would be highly discussed among them: the „Back To The Future Day 2015“. Because the movie „Back To The Future Part II“ saw the time-travelling protagonists arrive 20 years ahead of their own – then on the 21st of October 2015 – the date would be of high importance. The idea was to create an homage to the „Back To The Future“ trilogy by showing that the movie’s predictions did not go completely wrong. Rather, we wanted to show statements of gratitude to Doc Brown for inspiring the already existing self-driving F015.
