Creative Execution
Comprised of over fourteen thousand photospheres around the entire perimeter of Loch Ness, it enables anyone on Google Maps to scan the surface of the water for any sign of Nessie. We also created the UK’s first ever underwater Street View, using a specially-adapted trekker camera, so people can search the murky depths of the Loch.
Highest daily usage of Street View in 2015 so far this year.
Second biggest day in StreetView history.
400+ mentions of the project in global press.
Trended in the UK on social media with more than 28000 tweets referencing the Doodle and Street View.
In order to showcase Google Maps’ Street View technology, we launched ‘Searching Loch Ness’ to enable anyone in the world to join that search, wherever they are, and in so doing discover the beauty of the Loch. The project was created in partnership with Adrian Shine from the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre, a man who has been searching the Loch for over 40 years. A documentary hosted online dove into his story, his philosophy, and unearthed the deeper meaning of searching Loch Ness. The launch of the project coincided with a Google Doodle we created, commemorating the iconic “Surgeon’s Photo”, and which drove people to news all about the project.
