Creative Execution
We didn't have any additional marketing budget other than a few Facebook boosts and the general spreading of the product through our friends. Especially around national holidays where families often gather.
Despite the low-key launch we managed to get reviews from world-class blogs like LifeHacker and Buzzfeed and featured in the New York based woman magazine Real Simple; in June 2014. This gave us a huge boost in terms of direct downloads through the AppStore and the Google Play store and reviews, also boosting us up on the Top10 (Category: Utility and Food/Wine) in both Norway and the US. The summer of 2014 we were contacted by Apple and asked to join their Starbucks promo program in the US. This is a promotional campaign Apple and Starbucks have cooperated on for a few years. The motive is to spread great apps for directly to Starbucks customers around the world. So far we have about 300.000 downloads worldwide.
The main issue with the classic kitchen timer is that it only has one single timer. Yet the most used kitchen stoves in the world has 4 hot plates on top and an oven below. Digital timers that does try to tackle the issue have ended up making their timers too complex and hard to set. So solving this everyday problem was our main objective with Thyme. Make an intuitive and easy to use multi kitchen timer that is as simple to set as your regular single timer you have at home. To make sure that we had a strong focus on simplicity and intuitiveness on both Ui and UX we based Thyme of the 10 principles of good design by design legend Dieter Rams.
