The Brief
Due to the strong Swiss franc, competition across Swiss borders is more
present than ever. In addition, there are several other beauty retailer
competitors within Switzerland. Therefore, the objective was to raise
awareness for Marionnaud as being the beauty retailer in Switzerland. All
this had to be done quickly (following the news) and at a very low cost.
Campaign Success
When women are out clubbing or at a fancy restaurant, they may, at
some point, excuse themselves and head to the womens' restrooms in
order to touch up their makeup. It gets difficult, however, when they
realize that they have forgotten the necessary items at home. The
creative execution was relevant in the sense that Marionnaud is aware of
the high demand for make-up in womens' restrooms. The solution:
Marionnaud created the Emergency Box, a red «life saver» containing
the ultimate beauty must-haves, mascara, lipstick and perfume. The
Emergency Boxes were placed in womens' restrooms of selected venues
around Switzerland. The campaign ran for approximately one month.
Describe the success of the promotion with both client and consumer including some quantifiable results
The locations in which the Emergency Boxes were distributed claimed to
have had a considerable amount of positive feedback by females using
their restrooms. In addition, Marionnaud noted that their clientele might
be rediscovering the perfume classic by Jean-Paul Gaulthier Le
Classique. This deduction was made due to a slight increase in the
purchase of said perfume at several Marionnaud stores during the
campaign.
Explain why the method of promotion was most relevant to the product or service
The promotion for Emergency Box directly takes place in womens'
restrooms of upper-class venues, where the female target audience
mingles – in this case – where women freshen up their makeup. This
fact is highly relevant to the campaign because its goal is to endorse
Marionnaud, a high-end beauty retail chain in Switzerland.
