The Brief
Oslo, the capital of Norway is the place to be if you want to compete over the largest advertising clients in Norway.
So we decided to open an office in Oslo, and we brought the rain.
Campaign Success
The creative execution had a direct link to what people usually think about Bergen, the rainy days all year long.
We used this to our advantage when we opened our Oslo office, and showed that Bergen is more than rain. It is a city flooded with creative talent.
Describe the success of the promotion with both client and consumer including some quantifiable results
We launched our campaign in November 2014 and by the end of the year MK Norway became no 8 in Kampanje.com`s (main national fora for the media and advertising business in Norway) Top 10 talked-about-agencies in Norway 2014. A list we had never been on before.
House of Bergen got tons of national and international press-coverage including a live debate with Norwegian celebrities on national television about Oslo vs. Bergen.
The House of Bergen by MK Norway- Project was honored by the Marketing Council of the City of Bergen for bringing Bergen artists and design out to the world.
Last but not least, MK Norway got several invitations to national pitches and signed some new clients, in the time period immediately following the campaign.
Explain why the method of promotion was most relevant to the product or service
The advertising agency MK Norway was born in Bergen. A small city on the west of Norway housing only 259,000 inhabitants and vastly known for its endless rainy days all year long. But what people don’t know, is that Bergen is more than rain. It is a city flooded with creative talent.
To promote the opening of our Oslo office, we decided at MK Norway that it was worth bragging about our hometown artistic swag and for that, we created House Of Bergen. A space that would pay tribute to Bergen artists from different disciplines and a little bit, to show that rain can be fun too.
To invite people from the ad and communications industries to our happening, we sent them our rainy invite. It contained a card printed with invisible ink reactive to water and a cloud full of Bergen`s rain.
