The Brief
The church is no longer a place the common Swede visit. People only turn to the church at different life events, like a wedding, funeral or christening. How can we attract people outside these apparent events? Forgotten by the broad public the church hold treasures that belong to all citizens in Sweden, treasures the Swedes forgot about!! A cultural heritage consisting stories about an ancient culture and our history. We wanted to bring these stories to the public. The goal with the campaign was to give people a new reason to visit a church!
Campaign Success
We decided to bring these forgotten stories alive in an unexpected way from a religious perspective. With a drone we captured the unavailable treasures the church hold. We put a drone with a camera in a number of churches to capture footage of paintings and statues hidden in the roof, too far away for the human eye to explore. Now treasures that never before had been seen up-close could be unveiled to all the people that love a good story. The footage became a beautiful video that we placed on media channels and social platforms where people go to discover amazing stories, like Facebook, Youtube, twitter and blogs. To inspire people to experience these stories in reality, we put banners on different sites people turn to while looking for events. To encourage people to take part of their local treasures and stories we added OOH close to churches to drive immediate visits.
Describe the success of the promotion with both client and consumer including some quantifiable results
Over 220 000 people watched the video online. 7% of them decided to read more about the campaign on the web site. 2200 downloaded the Swedish church app “kyrkguiden”, were they could explore the map function and find their closest church to visit.
While we were filming in the biggest church in Sweden we received a big PR interest and different local media turned up to film set to watch drone fly in the church to write about it!
Most important we gave people a new reason to visit the church!
