The Brief
Parkinson's disease is a 'small disease'. People are not always aware of the impact it has on people suffering from it.
And having no advertising budget whatsoever, we needed to create an idea with impact.
We wanted to really emphasize the impact Parkinson's disease has on a patients daily life.
Campaign Success
In the old city centre of Amsterdam, where people are familiar with barrel organs, we replaced the regular barrel organ man. For ours. He was not the average barrel orgaan man, but a patient suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
He was collecting money for the Parkinson Association, playing barrel organ music in the old city centre of Amsterdam. Normally he would shake his collection box filled with coins to the beat of the music. But he can’t follow the rhythm, because his hands are trembling too much. Furthermore, he doesn’t even have a real barrel orgaan.
Everything went after plan.
Describe the success of the promotion with both client and consumer including some quantifiable results

Explain why the method of promotion was most relevant to the product or service
• Non-governmental organisations like the Dutch Parkinson’s Association receive minimal funding from the Government.
• The main goal: help 40.000 patients suffering from this disease.
• Second: raise awareness for Parkinson’s disease. The main public doesn’t know that patients suffer for the rest of their lives.
• Third: help find a cure.
• The organization is in desperate need of donations.
• It is not legally allowed to collect money ‘door-to-door’, but is admitted to use alternative fundraising activities. Such as small events on the streets.
• There is no advertising budget whatsoever.
• All projects are realized on a 100% pro bono basis.
