The Campaign

Together with musicians, we turned the natural sounds that arise when icebergs melt into real songs–the Iceberg Songs.

Creative Execution

Arctic scientists recorded the sounds of melting icebergs by using special underwater microphones. In collaboration with international musicians and artists, we turned these sounds into music. Every artist integrated the sound of the melting icebergs individually und gave their song a personal note. We collected a wide range of different genres–from electronic music to classic. On our interactive website, icebergsongs.com, we merged the songs with moving 360° images in dramatic, dark tonality. Thanks to innovative WebGL technology, users get the impression of moving among icebergs while they listen to them, and gain a first hand feeling of what is happening in the far away arctic.

Since the start of the World Climate Conference, we created huge media buzz. Social media, press, radio and even several TV shows featured our project. Users responded to our message by listening to the Iceberg Songs for over 1300 hours and creating and sharing their own Iceberg Songs. Among general users, even internationally famous musicians, such as Trentemoeller, Marc Houle or Robot Koch composed their own Iceberg Song. Our project is an ongoing process. Musicians and users are still creating and uploading new Iceberg Songs. With the musicians sharing the songs to their fan community, leading media channels and newspapers reporting about our idea, and our own social media channels, we reached people from all over the world, and the icebergs were finally heard.

We created a unique music project for a charitable purpose. With the aim to fight global warming on behalf of the United Nations, internationally famous musicians turned the hurting truth of melting icebergs into fascinating music. And the icebergs were finally heard worldwide.

We presented the natural sounds of melting icebergs to different musicians and won their attention through their unique appearance and creating an entirely new experience for them to work with. Combined with the purpose to fight global warming, artists from all over the world joined the mission and created the Iceberg Songs.
