The production challenges that we faced when filming Man on the Moon were largely because we were attempting to re-create the Moon’s surface within a studio environment. The SFX supervisor created a ‘secret recipe’ for the moon dust and used 10 tonnes of Bentonite clay and 100 kilos of pumice stone when creating the moon’s surface. The set build took place over three weeks with a team of 35 people. Our art department and production designer were award winning members of the team who had worked on films such as The Martian, Prometheus, Star Wars, etc We needed an extremely large studio which could guarantee exclusive privacy so that the idea was not leaked to the media and so we filmed at Warner Bros Studios who are familiar with producing highly sensitive feature films. The studios are especially famous for the Harry Potter movies.
