Brief Explanation
A small child is playing with a so-called “shape sorter cube”. He uses his little hands to try and stick the colourful circles, triangles and squares in the same-shaped holes.
The child tries and tries – but fails repeatedly. He finally loses patience, tosses the toy away and begins to cry.
Conclusion:
Give abstract shapes a second chance.
Art Museum Konstruktiv
Execution
Art Museum Konstruktiv in Zurich is dedicated to the exploration of concrete art. Piet Mondrian is one famous representative of this art movement, in which there is a strong emphasis on reduction and abstraction, based on the use of squares, rectangles and circles.
We sought an execution that supports the idea, while also matching the art movement that is exhibited. We therefore decided to film directly from the shape sorting cube. To make this possible, a small high-definition camera was installed in a custom-built shape sorting cube.
This created a look that provided an attractive contrast to the little boy – and went so well with the abstract art that it is now even shown as a permanent installation in the museum.
