Brief Explanation

In a tribute to the 130 year anniversary of the Wallmans Circus Building in Copenhagen, this stunning film reunites past circus artistry with contemporary post-modern craftsmanship in an eerie and dark, yet beautiful ad. We get a glimpse inside the old mysterious building at night as it's memories are unleashed by the sounds of a 1930s song - bringing to life early 20th century bartenders, artists, and horses in captivating slow-motion images. As the old phonograph starts to skip and the song fades, the fabric of the past deteriorates in favor of today's artists. The film goes to great lengths to avoid easy commercial tricks (e.g. heartfelt characters or emotional modern music). Instead it allows space for the narrative to breathe and the imagery, silence and sounds to guide us. Thus, the building itself becomes a character while time, space and ambience forms an inherent part of its' "persona".

Execution

This director's achievement was simply outstanding. Idea, concept, script, execution, and campaign was all developed by the director in collaboration with the producer. The only brief given was that the client wanted a new campaign, which captured a new audience more interested in the arts than in the traditional show. The director himself came up with the idea to make a tribute to the 130 Year Anniversary (something overlooked by everyone else) and wrote the idea and script. The scripts and boards had such level of detail (down to every sound we hear and the exact mood and ambience of the mise-en-scene) that it made an extremely difficult shoot much easier for everyone. Conveying his vision of an almost eerie "The Shining" feel and balancing contrasts between the dark and beautiful, whilst juggling several sets at a time. Everything from the pre- to post production was, quite frankly, executed brilliantly.
