Brief Explanation
The film opens on three horses on a field of a horse farm, who are shaken with laughter. They’re actually almost dying of laughter. What’s so funny? A man in his car is desperately trying to back a horsebox trailer into a parking space. The more he tries – and fails – the more horses join in on the laughter. Eventually the driver gives up unnerved.
While the horses are still trying to catch their breath, a new car with a horsebox trailer arrives: the new Volkswagen Tiguan. The driver uses the new Trailer Assist feature and steers the trailer right away into the parking space, without any problems. Leaving the horses to watch this yet unseen scenario in complete astonishment.
For this project casting was a three step process:
First, we had to cast two drivers/actors. A funny Zach Galifianakis-type one that would amusingly try and fail over and over to park a horsebox trailer with his car. Whereas the other one – the sovereign, cool Volkswagen driver – would accomplish this challenge right away.
Second, we had to find real horses that were able to move their lips (several horses didn’t have animated faces) and roll over on command. Meaning horses that would look amused whenever you show them something witty.
Third – since horses don’t laugh out loud by nature – we had to cast professional laughing artist. Meaning voice over professionals who match the respective animal’s characteristics and way of expression. So each horse could be given a unique laughter.
