The Campaign

Sunshine Games app offers the first example of long distance low-vision education program made possible thanks to Turk Telekom’s technology and EY-DER’s educational experience. Sunshine Games App consist of three games offering different contents. There are 20 levels which consist of games based on letters, numbers and figures. The game app is a milestone and the first and only games developed in this field. It gives the opportunity to children with low vision to develop their vision constantly and provide sustainability for the project. Both the Android and iOS versions of the app are available both in English and Turkish, works regardless of mobile operator and can be accessed by any user. Millions of people will have an opportunity to access these games free of charge.

Execution

Sunshine Games App consist of three games offering different content. There are 20 levels in the app which consist of games based on letters, numbers and figures. Kids are asked to locate, and touch, a verbally-instructed letter among quite large letters, figures and numbers in contrasting colors that flow down on a black background. While they are large and bright-colored enough to cover most of the screen at the beginning of the activity, their size gets smaller at following levels with an increased speed of flow. While kids playing these games learn figures, letters and numbers they also enhance their functional vision skills and improve their hand-eye coordination. The game is a milestone and the first and only games developed in this field. It gives the opportunity to children with low vision to develop their vision constantly and provide sustainability for the project.

Project Sunshine has access to limited number of children but the games offer service to all visually disabled people therefore Project Sunshine Games reaches a broader target audience. The games also give the opportunity to children with low vision to develop their vision constantly and provide sustainability for the project. Millions of people who are not official participants of the Project Sunshine will have an opportunity to access these games free of charge, no matter which operator is used. Project Sunshine Games will support education for millions of people with low vision around the world, and are ideal for education of preschool kids with low vision as well as for those with unimpaired vision. The games are also quite suitable for individuals learning how to read and write at advanced ages. Project Sunshine Games are also available in English. The Situation

Various researches indicate that 290 million people around the world are visually impaired, but only 39 million of them are totally blind. There are 800 thousand people that are estimated to be visually-impaired in Turkey. Based on the worldwide statistics, 650 thousand of them have a sight below %10 or perception of light. Project Sunshine Games app is a set of games specially designed to support Project Sunshine, an initiative to engage kids with residual vision, who are legally considered blind, in social life and to enable them to receive education together with their peers with unimpaired vision.
