Tell the jury anything relevant about the direction.

What was so special about this project, was the relative lack of brief from the client's side. This allowed the director to truly tell the story he wanted to: resulting in a very personal piece. Consequently, the film became a palimpsest of cinematic references that have held impact on his life: a blend of past and contemporary references. Filmed in two and a half days in some of the rougher neighbourhoods of Paris, the shoot presented significant challenges, in both time pressure and location managing. Filming in these areas, some places that no other film crew had previously ventured, meant close coordination with influential members of each community.

Write a short summary of what happens in the film

A Report Of Connected Events is a branded content film celebrating the power of storytelling. Filmed in Paris, but one which has been digitally reimagined, the piece explores iconic moments in film and television history, blurring the lines between our reality and some of our favourite stories. We follow connected characters engaging with these stories within this fictional city as a backdrop.Through the transition from evening to night, from night to morning, characters are confronted with increasingly challenging situations which at times frustrate, at times comfort or amaze. A Report of Connected Events reminds us of the omnipresence of storytelling in all of our lives: a fact for which we are all so glad.

Cultural/Context information for the jury

The intention of this film was to remove it from any one culture, and rather place it within the culture of storytelling: an international language of sorts. The predominant languages may be French and English, and although we did film in Paris, the location is not intended to be French but rather a reimagined landscape composed of Asian, American and European (cinematic) influences.
