Write a short summary of what happens in the film

A man trudging home from Aldi inadvertently summons his inner ice-skater as he slips on a sheet of ice. Despite a clumsy start, his impromptu routine, which pays homage to British figure skaters Torvill and Dean’s iconic gold medal routine from the 1984 Winter Games, sees our hero transform into an elegant, pirouetting skater, earning high praise from the Olympic legends. And not just because it’s set to Ravel’s Balero. Despite the pair’s warming compliments, our impromptu skater is much more impressed by Aldi’s gold medal prices.

Cultural/Context information for the jury

Aldi is Team GB’s Official Supermarket Partner. In this campaign, which ran during the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, we wanted to capture the adventurous spirit of the Games whilst still retaining our well-known irreverent humour. Casting legendary British Olympians Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean in the ad was a fitting way, not only to pay homage to their past success, but of telling people about the Olympic-sized savings you can make at Aldi.
