Write a short summary of what happens in the film

While waiting for the microwave to heat up food three flatmates perform an impromptu rendition of the classic hair metal anthem Final Countdown – using only kitchenware. As the song is supposed to reach its climax their performance is abruptly cut short by the microwave’s dinging bell, which completes the classic riff.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

Saarioinen is a Finnish manufacturer of ready-made microwave meals. The ad promotes a product range of meals, which consists of classic Finnish dishes, which all Finns are familiar with. These dishes are widely regarded as “classics” in Finland. The tagline “A classic you can count on” (“Klassikon tunnistaa” in the voice-over) refers to these classic song as well as the classic meals – and even the classic Saarioinen jingle from 1967 (According to Guinness book of world records the world’s oldest corporate jingle in continuous use).

Europe’s Final Countdown was the perfect match for the film as it ticked several boxes: - It’s an instantly recognisable song to the sound of which our core target group (single men living out of home) has head banged for the past three decades. - They play Final Countdown as the clock on the microwave is winding down. Get it? - It’s a kick-ass song with a cool riff and bad ass bass drums – which translate nicely into a kitchenware jam session. - Fun fact: the performance was recored live without any post-work gimmicks.
