Why is this work relevant for Entertainment?

"Sabaton - Bismarck" is a music video that illustrates one of the most known naval battles of WWII. Although there are plenty of movies and documentaries about the Hunt for the Bismarck, we chose to create the first CGI video that shows the crucial battle moments in a spectacular way. This short movie is The Sabaton and Wargaming tribute to all fallen sailors of WWII.

Background

Situation: On April 2019, Sabaton planned to release a standalone single about one of the biggest and most known warships - "The Bismarck". Wargaming proposed to collaborate and make our players and Sabaton fans happy with an epic short movie about the last Bismarck battle. Brief: To create an entertaining yet historically accurate video with the band and 3D models of warships from our game, World of Warships. Objective: To increase World of Warships brand awareness and to get the Bismarck video trending on Youtube.

Describe the creative idea

The idea was to create a story dedicated to all the sailors who fought in The Battle of the Atlantic without picking sides. We produced the music video that recreates the Hunt for the Bismarck with 3D models straight out of World of Warships and made it historically accurate to its last breath.

Describe the strategy

Our best bet was to create historically accurate content with high production value and compelling story that would excite both World of Warships and Sabaton fans and help us get exposure without spending a penny on promotion.

Describe the execution

To tell our story we used a combination of actual 3D models from World of Warships game, real footage with actors, advanced VFX and band performance. The video was aired on the 22nd of April both on Sabaton's official Youtube channel / social media and on World of Warships' Youtube channels / social media.

Describe the outcome

The video reached over 1 million views and was trending on YouTube in Germany (#8), Finland (#2), USA (#16), Norway (#11) and Russia (#18) on the day of release, an above-average result for the metal band. As of September 2019, the view count has risen to 13.6 m views on Sabaton's Youtube channel and 830K on World of Warships channels. The project was highlighted in 78 key music and gaming media with total estimated coverage of 100m.
