Write a short summary of what happens in the radio or audio execution or campaign.

While alarm sirens were being tested across Switzerland, live sounds of war from Yemen were also being broadcast on Radio 24 and at promotional stands. The transmission ended with a special broadcast on the topic, including an appeal for donations to support the work of Amnesty International in protecting the civil population in Yemen.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

In case of an alarm, the Swiss are requested to turn on the radio for further information. Despite 200 years of peace in Switzerland, the alarm sirens are tested every year to see whether they still work. At the same time, homes, schools, and hospitals in Yemen are being destroyed without warning during air attacks since March 25, 2015. Yet the conflict is disappearing more and more from the Swiss consciousness.

Script. Provide the full radio advert script in English.

While we test our sirens in times of peace, in Yemen bombs are falling without a prior warning. Those bombs are delivered from around the world and they also hit schools, hospitals and residental buildings without a prior warning. We at Amnesty International are fighting for the human rights and against arms deliveries for the war in Yemen. You can help us protecting the civilian population at amnesty.ch/alarm.

Explain how the work innovatively used the radio / audio medium.

While the alarm sirens were tested throughout Switzerland, Amnesty International, in cooperation with Radio 24, broadcast real sounds of war from Yemen. Amnesty International set new standards in audio communication with this idea, combining an official event with an audio broadcast in a way never seen before.
