Background

The Nobel Peace Center is a Norwegian foundation and museum that opened in 2005. Among the topics which the museum shares knowledge to its visitors about, are the Nobel Peace Prize, Alfred Nobel, and the peace prize winners and their work. The museum has become known as an important exhibition space for documentary photography and has in recent years become an arena for current debates and conversations about war, peace and conflict resolution. The challenge was to create an interactive experience as a touchscreen used inside the Nobel Peace Center, as well as a website that is easy to use and update, and that shares knowledge with a world-wide audience.

Describe the creative idea (40% of vote)

The experience is well connected with the identity of the Nobel Peace Center and the impression one is left with after a visit. In a visual costume worthy of a Nobel Prize. Framed in a modern design that holds the test of time. The site offers a rich history of inspiring individuals and organisations who have spent their lives fighting injustice and equality. It is a information site that invites play and exploration using exciting ways to navigate to find information. Made available to the public both physically and online. Making the information available online allows large parts of the world to take part in history without having to visit the Center.

Peace Prize Laureates is a information site that invites play and exploration using exciting ways to navigate to find information. The globe that meets the user, shows the winners in a geographical global perspective that fits the award's mandate. That way the users feel more connected to winners who come from places close to them. Using WebGL technology, we created an exciting and interactive experience where you can move around the globe and click on each winner for more in-depth information. With a single click you can also switch to a horizontal timeline, which enables you to navigate laterally through over a hundred years of award winners. Both the touchscreen and website are easily accessible and intuitive to use. Easy-to-find search lets you quickly find a specific winner or themes, that certain winners are associated with. The site is made available to the public both physically and online on all devices.

The interactive touchscreen has played an important role in increasing the visitors’ experience at the Nobel Peace Center. Information about all winners of The Nobel Peace Price is easily accessible through an easy to use interactive touchscreen site. The Nobel Peace Center has 600,000 visitors annually. Of these, over a hundred thousand are pupils and students. In addition, the Nobel Peace Center has a teaching program for schools in Norway and internationally. This solution has now made it easier for students to receive information about the prize winners and for teachers to access information that is a part of their curriculum. As a result of this, more people will receive more information about historical figures and organizations that are role models for the continuous struggle for freedom and equal rights for all.
