Background

Up to 30 % of the total Slovakia’s old-growth forest area is still not protected from human interventions.

Describe the strategy

With our client WWF Slovakia (World Wild Fund), we decided to increase the overall awareness of the old-growth forests and provoke a mass action for their rescue. We came up with an online challenge in the manner of the phrase High Five – “Hi 5 to old-growth forests”, with the 5 symbolizing the proposed fifth and highest level of protection – Nature reserve.

Describe the execution

Along with a link to the petition, we launched the challenge via a video on WWF’s social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram), in which we also actively involved selected influencers committed to the conservation of nature.

List the results

The video has spread throughout the whole community of nature lovers. We reached more than 765 000 people in Slovakia and brought the association 30 759 signatures, thus tripling the minimum number needed for the relevant authorities to address the issue. After several negotiations with the relevant ministries, WWF is now on the path of achieving its goal – to give the old-growth forests a 5!

Please tell us about the social behaviour that inspired the work

People on social media love challenges. So we gave them one very important, which was very easy to share thru Instagram Stories. Famous greeting quote - Give me 5! helped us to engage people and save our precious old forests.
