Why is this work relevant for Entertainment?

More than a commercial that exposes the taboo that surrounds incest in France, this 2 minutes animation film proposes a dive through the eyes of a child. Entitled Two Monsters in my story, the film raises the disturbing nature of the question of consent. The storytelling and the craft immerse the audience into an unbearable story. A story tho, told through the imagination and the dreamlike of a child.

Background

In France today, a child victim of sexual abuse still has to prove before the law that he did not consent. That he did say “NO”. That’s the unbearable reality the French organization Face à l’Inceste (which act for child protection) is fighting. The brief aimed to raise public awareness regarding this crazy lawful situation & to call upon French citizens to change the law by signing a petition.

Describe the creative idea

To bring the public to ask a change of law, the first challenge was to popularise the complex legal framework. Through the eyes of a child, the 2min animated film, entitled Two Monsters in my story, raises the disturbing nature of the question of consent. It brings to the attention of the audience how the legal framework forces a victim to keep reliving their physical and psychological nightmare.

Describe the strategy

The film brings to the attention of the audience on how the legal framework forces a victim to keep reliving their physical and psychological nightmare. By doing so, it places the whole legal system in front of their responsibility. Those who are supposed to help and do justice are here part of the problem. Revealing this situation to a large audience helped putting pressure to make the law change at a political level.

Describe the execution

As a non-profit organization media implementation has been offered for free by the medias. The campaign ran from 01/21/2021 to 02/20/2021 across multiple French Tv channels. Describe the outcome

See above for some figures. Two weeks after the airing the petition has collected enough signatures to hold the government’s attention. On febuary, French Minister of justice has publicly decided on establishing 18 years old as the age under which nobody should be considered consenting. The change of law is on its way at the French parliament.
