Write a short summary of what happens in the film

In this film, we feel the positive energy flowing around Great Britain as electric vehicles charge up on zero-carbon electricity throughout the night. Out of the silence, we open on a quiet cul-de-sac to an Electric Mini parked in a garage. The car blinks awake to a hushed choral version of “Busy Doing Nothing”, the Richard M. Sherman tune. As the film continues, a variety of vehicles up and down the country spark to life, charging through the nights whilst the nation sleeps. We close with a terraced house at dawn; outside which the lights of the car turn off, as the bedroom light switches on and the nation awakes to find their EVs fully charged for the day ahead.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

The film features different types of houses up and down the nation to reflect the ease of access to EV charging with EDF. We see high-rise tower blocks, farms and suburban homes to help show the length and breadth of Britain.

Tell the jury about the choice of music track.

Richard M. Sherman’s song ‘Busy Doing Nothing’ was used for EDF’s first campaign with in September 2020. This song epitomises the work of EDF, who are ‘busy’ doing everything to get carbon emissions down to nothing. A ‘lullaby’ cover of the track felt like the right tone for the film, it sets the scene of the nation asleep at night, with an ethereal undertone that places these cars in this magical, awakened state. The track is also a winning brand asset for EDF, with the added benefit of the lyrics implicitly driving home the messaging around EDF driving the nation to net-zero.
