Write a short summary of what happens in the film

With a focus on community and togetherness, Nike Victory Swim celebrates the victory of a young girl learning how to swim for the first time. The film uses the metaphor of a mother’s swimming lesson to celebrate female athletes whose fearless spirit to overcome matches the untamable liberty of life in the water. Along the way, the film features three remarkable Middle Eastern women who have forged their own success in sport: amputee Zainab Al-Eqabi, UAE national rower Maha Al Ameri and triathlete Manal Rostom. Not only is the young girl’s mother there in the water teaching her, she’s joined by other women across the Middle East. Each and every one of them pushing her further, swimming, surfing, and rowing together with her, like a team in a relay race of continental proportions.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

The Nike Victory Swim collection is guided by inclusivity in bringing performance innovation to modest swimwear for Muslim female athletes.

Tell the jury about the elements of sound design.

This project came to us completely mute and the sound bed had to be built completely from scratch. Due to lockdown, we recorded the dialogue remotely with the actor who was based in Egypt. The majority of the underwater sounds you hear were recorded using a special underwater microphone called a hydrophone. These recordings were then manipulated along with the music stems working with the story and its emotional and stirring climax to produce a beautiful piece of work.
