Write a short summary of what happens in the film

Part of a global campaign launching the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a documentary, featuring Alicia Keys. In this film named “Pieces”, the 15-time GRAMMY winner speaks very honestly and openly about her life’s journey and what she cares about: her art and her kids. The documentary portrays unseen video material from the artists past, dating back to her childhood in Hell's Kitchen, New York, in the 80s and 90s. It also shows a unique performance of her widely popular song "Love Looks Better" from her new album ALICIA, tying in with the overall campaign’s message “Cares for what matters”.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

Especially in today’s times, finding our truth and caring for what matters, are extremely important messages. With this film, we aimed to inspire, with the help of the wise words of one of our times most influential and respected artists.

Tell the jury anything relevant about the cinematography.

Abteen Bagheri shot everything on 16mm film. He had to make sure that Alicia Keys’ personal videos fitted the overall concept. Therefore, he filmed the given footage on an old TV with a 16mm film. On top of that, the new warped footage, after they wrapped, was also filmed off an old TV, tying it all together. Lastly, a talented LA artist called Alex Pelly ran all the footage through synthesizers.
