Creative Execution

We decided to create a free Facebook application that would enable every Tunisian to vote each day and in real time for all the candidates running for the Presidential Elections and to direct their political aspirations to the candidates themselves. To keep GOV a neutral tool, we offered its use and the savoir-faire of our teams to YOUTH DECIDES, one of the most important Tunisian NGOs that promotes democracy in the Arab World. Our goal was to make the Tunisian youth feel they had the chance to express themselves every day on GOV. At the same time, we built a partnership with one of the greatest written press media, that revealed the Tunisian people’s aspirations every day via GOV.

In just a few days, GOV had become a phenomenon, considered by the local medias as “the voice for the voiceless”. One week after launch, featured within top 3 “trendy” APP on Google Play. Facebook's most influent bloggers started using the app and changed their profile pictures with the GOV logo. The majority of candidates understood the power of this app, and encouraged the population to give its opinion on GOV : even Beji Caid Essebsi who was eventually elected a few weeks later. Several media relayed this information in Tunisia and elsewhere. GOV soon became essential with more than 800'000 opinions given in a month and a half. The servers almost went down during a peak where 7 opinions were given every seconds. On November 21th the new president was elected : the results of the election confirmed what had been forecasted on GOV a few days before, showing that social networks can be powerful tools of democracy.

In 2011, the first revolution of the Arab Spring took place in Tunisia. After months of protestations, the whole Tunisian population overthrew the dictator Ben Ali. In November 2014 the first presidential democratic elections were held with more than 27 candidates. A true event, this being the first democratic election of the Arab world. But three years after the revolution, hope had left room to disappointment. How could we reconcile the Tunisian people - and especially the younger populations - with politics? The Tunisian revolution was born on Social networks and is known as the Facebook revolution. So we launched GOV, an app available on Facebook and mobile (IOS & Android). With a simple clic, you can give your positive or negative opinion every day on any candidate. You could also give your opinion on social issues and debates, or even start a debate of your own.
