Write a short summary of what happens in the film
Dave, a designer, is awoken by the glow of a thought bubble. He sits up and knocks his head on it. Because, in this world, thought bubbles are physical objects - distracting, annoying, and in the way.
We see Dave’s morning and just how annoying a new idea in your head can be. Along the way to work, we see how other people deal with their ideas (or don’t). In his journey, Dave accidentally loses his idea bubble and we see that, while having a new idea may be frustrating, losing one is unbearable.
Dave spots his idea off in the distance and races to grab it. With a sigh of relief and his bubble in hand, Dave confidently heads to the office to do something about that unrealised idea: turn it into a prototype with ProtoPie.
Tell the jury about type(s) of animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.
The challenge of this film was to take something that's universally familiar - the thought bubble - and reimagine it in a way that's both instantly understandable but meaningfully different. The strategy of using light and the intensity of light to reflect the strength of an idea led us to explore the animation style of the final film.
This was the first film for our production partners using exclusively socially distanced team members, so the process was a new adventure that made us, like the character in the film, focus on making our ideas easy to share.
