The film "Vienna is like ..." visually expresses the description of a city that cannot be put into words. It is more of a feeling of playful lightness that is shaped by the hand of history. This contrast is the guiding principle of an entire city that sees many things with a wink. The music supports this feeling and pays homage to an old tradition of making music in Vienna: "The Wienerlied".

Vienna is a city of contrasts. It is well known for its rich history, for its magnificent classical music, for its culinary heritage. This seems a lot of weight when it comes to storytelling and composing in a touristic context. We asked us: How can you visually and musically deal with this "More-of-the-same-problem"?

Tell the jury about the creation of the original music track.

The music was originally created for the film and is an homage to the so called "Wienerlied". That's an "only-in-Vienna-played" music style which has been cultivated for decades. It arises out of a rich classic music heritage in Vienna and reflects the way of life in in the city by defining a playful but also slightly melancholic sound. The music was created by the "mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts" in Vienna . The institution was established in 1817 and was home of many famous composers and conductors such as Gustav Mahler and Nikolaus Harnoncourt amongst many others.
