Write a short summary of what happens in the film
We open on a guy in parking lot. He can’t find his car. An old hippie appears and starts telling our protagonist how he lost his van in 1967 and has been there ever since. Soon other ageing characters in a similar predicament appear. An aging roller girl with leotard; An old businessman holding an 80’s phone; A lady pushing a shopping cart with her middle-aged son sitting inside and a middle-aged man wearing a retro shell suit and walking a skeleton dog. The hippie tries to convince our perplexed protagonist that it’s not so bad living in there and the group of misfits start chanting ‘one of us, one of us…’ Our hero gets out his phone and uses the Find My Car app. A Kia Sorento unlocks in the background. The driver casually walks over to it and takes off. The hippie and his friends look on, open-mouthed.
Tell the jury about the casting process.
The hippie is the character with the most screen time. It was a priority that we got him exactly how we wanted it. We imagined Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now and a British rock star from the 60s. He needed to be a bit creepy, overly enthusiastic, a little wired and eager to please. We found a great actor to bring him to life. Our driver needed to react visually to what was happening around him and contrast with the absurdity. He lets the weirdness happen around him while looking confused but subtle and understated. The supporting cast had to look very weird while acting as if everything is completely normal. A wonderfully absurd roller girl, an 80s yuppie, an old mother pushing her grown up son in a shopping cart and a man walking a skeleton dog brought the film to life with the help of some great wardrobe.
