The WWF have the mission to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. One of the ways they do this is by promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption. Many western countries are contributing to the ocean plastic problem by sending their plastic waste to countries such as Malaysia in South East Asia. This plastic is entering the oceans and breaking down into microplastics where it is impacting ecosystems at an alarming scale. Eurythenes plasticus is essentially an innovative form of environmental activism directly inspired out of the WWF's purpose. The new species has become a symbol for our environmental impact on parts of the world that we are yet to even discover.
