Cultural / Context information for the jury
In Norway, the national debate around onshore wind has been extremely harsh, with loud and volatile anti-wind protesters hi-jacking the debate with feelings rather than facts. So much so, that they managed to silence politicians, business leaders and regular people that were undecided or positive toward onshore wind. The whole topic had become so toxic that no elected officials wanted to touch it, and the national plans for onshore wind were put on hold.
So we had to bring back an argument that had disappeared from the debate, the climate crisis, and onshore wind as a the most important clean energy source, and managed to bring the debate back to life again, by elevating the debate to centre around our common future, rather than esthetics and ruining the view from your cabin (Norwegians are "religiously" fond of their cabins).
Please outline the innovative elements of the work
To bring the climate into the national debate, and make sure we made maximun impact, we built a 15 x 3,5 meter large Climate Clock, counting down to 2030, the year we need to have cut the worlds emissions in half. And put it where we should be bulding wind turbines, in nature. To show that this in fact is what we are trying to protect, not destroy.
To secure maximum attention, we live-streamed the Climate Clock to digital ad-shels in every major city, as well as topical and programmatical banners all over Norway.
