Cultural / Context information for the jury
Each year on May 3rd, we celebrate the World Press Freedom Day.
But the 2020 edition of that event created by UNESCO was like no other.
If this day usually serves as a reminder to governments of the necessity to respect their engagements for press freedom; or as a tribute to imprisoned or murdered journalists and even helps the media fight censorship; This year it took place in an unprecedented context of sanitary crisis.
In this new situation of pandemic and global fear, preserving unbiased informationand reporting realistic news appeared to be more difficult than ever.
Nonetheless, to fight against « fake news » and smear campaigns that spread
faster than the virus itself, this campaign invited all media across the world to relay that message, in order to raise awareness on the importance of a free and independent journalism, now more than ever.
