Porsche and Audi have dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans for over 30 years – but never met on the track until today because 16 years ago, Porsche decided to leave the racing circus. In 2014 the duel of these two champions was finally meant to happen because Porsche announced their return to the track. To welcome back our rival to the most legendary race in motorsports with true sportsmanship and a twinkle in the eye, we decided to deliver the invitation in person – with our official racecar. The reaction of fans all over the world showed, how unique and unseen this action was. When the showdown in Le Mans finally happened, over 250.000 fans at the racetrack and millions at home witnessed one of the most spectacular races of all time. Our action stood as a worthy kick-off to the most legendary race in the world of motorsports – and set the competitive but respectful tone between the two great teams that are Porsche and Audi.

When we set out on the journey in Ingolstadt to welcome back our rival Porsche, fans and the general public were drawn to the official racecar on the public road – because it is not a very common sight. As we documented and shared our trip to the Porsche headquarters in Zuffenhausen online and in different owned media channels, fans, car enthusiasts and different media quickly started to pick it up. Soon, the whole world of motorsport was electrified about the duel on the racetrack.

The video of the action quickly hit over 4 million views on YouTube and was shared on car blogs like the world famous BBC Top Gear, national and international news sites and even the official Porsche Twitter account. It was shared over 74.000 times on Facebook and over 2.500 times on Twitter. And – as a nice side note: After 24 hours Audi managed to stand victorious for the 13th time in total.
