Brief Explanation

This film was aimed at increasing awareness to help end the bombings of schools, hospitals and homes in Syria. In order to maximize the impact of the film, the sound would need to play an integral part. The film runs in slow motion and reverse, this is the integral message of the film trying to reverse the current situation. The other key idea in the sound design was to use the sound from real bombings in order to bring the realism and shock of such an event. We got permission to use the sound from two bombings that were caught on camera. One of a girl singing a song of peace just before a bomb drops just beside her, and another of multiple bombings on the same civilian area. We decided to use these at different points in the film to enhance the horror of what is happening. All the screams, voices and the final explosion were from real attacks. All these sounds work as an underscore for the Daughter track whose lyrics back up the message of the film. The result is highly emotive and designed to really make people take notice and act.
