Brief Explanation

Total is the biggest french company. It provides all kind of energies, from oil to solar energy. This manifesto is told by the real employees in their real workplaces. They are carrying the commitment of the 100.000 people who work for Total : because the world needs more and more energy, ENERGY HAS TO BE BETTER; there is no other choice, nothing is more important than this common goal, at all levels of the company, in every country. This commercial has been shot in 11 countries around the world, during 7 months, from -40°C to +50°C, from the northern part of Europe to the southest part of Africa, from the headquarter of Total in Paris to an isolated oil-rig in the middle of Celebes sea.

Creative Execution

This film is the new corporate film of the biggest french company. This manifesto is told by the real employees in their real workplaces. At this point, nothing special. But this company is Total, producer of all kind of energies in almost the entire world. And 9 times out of 10, energies are located in the most isolated and inaccessible areas, where nobody has shot, and even less a commercial. Our production challenge had been this one : How can we get a result, in terms of quality, that satisfy the demands of the agency, the director and the 10th biggest company of the world, in working conditions where only a small documentary team can shoot ? Everything had been harder than we thought. Here are some examples of the difficulties that we faced : In lots of production sites, it’s impossible to do the scouting because nobody can enter without succeeding to a very tough 3 weeks security training. The all crew had to do it to get the permission to shoot on the oil-rig. In Bornéo, there are no technical team and no equipment at all. Everything has been transported from Singapor and Thaïland, a 2500km trip. In the northern part of Siberia, there are no more roads… Not so easy when you travel with 30 people and 2 tons of equipment. Shooting while the temperature is -40°C is thougher than you imagine. 3 cameras died, the batteries used to function less than 10 minutes, frozen video monitor, etc. Shooting when the temperature is +50°C in the desert, diving with the oil-rig repairmen in a sea full of shark, working in places where dangers and death risks are omnipresent, all these security concerns for the team has been a hard test for our nerves. 800 people across 11 countries during 7 months have worked to make it happen. We are all extremely proud of the result. We’ll all remember this shoot for life but from a production point of view, we’ll never do it again. It has been the hardest job of our professional life.
