Brief Explanation
The challenge was to add value to a voucher for tableware, the most classic of all wedding presents, in a way that is worth more than the voucher itself. Our objective was to develop a traditional yet innovative solution which would be suitably fitting for the romantic occasion of a wedding.
The Brief
Rosenthal, the world’s leading manufacturer of fine tableware, wanted to develop an innovative voucher packaging design for porcelain, everyone’s first choice of wedding gift.
The design should put an end to the days when presenting a newly married couple with nothing but an envelope was considered boring and unimaginative.
How the final design was conceived
At German weddings it is customary to wish the bride and groom luck by smashing porcelain. The noise is supposed to drive away evil spirits. Inspired by this tradition, we invented the first voucher envelope made exclusively from porcelain. What makes it so special is that the wedding gift, a tableware voucher, is hidden inside. Thanks to a specially developed multi-stage firing process, the envelope is sealed with the voucher inside. To get the voucher, the newlyweds have to smash the envelope. An elegant way to wish the happy couple good luck, good spirits and fine porcelain.
Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
Thanks to the Weddinglope, the number of Rosenthal vouchers sold at Rosenthal stores increased by 32% compared with the same period last year. Whether the number of weddings has also increased is something we cannot judge.
