Brief Explanation

Challenges: After a successful first edition of MEET MARKET (Amsterdam, 2012), VBAT decided to hold the event parallel at two locations: Amsterdam and Mexico City, where the agency opened an office in 2013. This year`s MEET MARKET challenge was for young talent to share their perspective on cultural design by creating the tail fin of an airplane, whose destinations are Holland and Mexico. Especially interaction with talent from Mexico was a challenge. Key Objectives High quality entries from both countries Interaction with talent and new business opportunities Introduce VBAT as great, inspiring place to work International PR

The Brief

With offices in Holland and Mexico, exploration and discovery feed VBAT’s hunger for different perspectives, in turn helping the agency to tell great design stories. VBAT was looking for a way to connect with the best creative talent out there and with new business opportunities at the same time. A design competition linked with physical exhibitions of the entered work and an art installation inspired by agency work in Amsterdam and Mexico City should make the match between VBAT, talent and new business opportunities complete. VBAT MEET MARKET should be set up for the second time with a new theme.

How the final design was conceived

In their search for the best creative talent out there and to connect with new business opportunities, VBAT used the theme ‘Fly’ to connect both Dutch and Mexican culture for their second edition of MEET MARKET. The iconic branding of the MEET MARKET event is playful and spirited - a fruity cocktail of both Mexican and Dutch cultural symbolism. The `Fly`theme was used as a read thread down to the smallest detail, functioning as a curious conversation starter for both talent and business prospects.

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

VBAT received an overwhelming amount of entries (200+) for the design competition, especially from Mexico. In Mexico City, VBAT cooperated with the Dutch Embassy in order to make Meet Market successful. Many new business prospects joined the opening of the exhibition. At both locations, a surprising amount of promising young talent came to show their portfolio. The 200+ entries were exhibited physically as part of the `Fly` installation at both Meet Market`s Amsterdam and Mexico city events and virtually via social media (Behance, Instagram, Twitter & Facebook) and a dedicated event website.
