Manufacturer Mannequins |
Brief Explanation
We asked “Because who is perfect?” and wanted to create window display dummies that are not standardized like they usually are.
The Brief
Standards and ideals in fashion and beauty industry make it difficult for the disabled to be included in society. The non-profit organisation Pro Infirmis wanted to draw public attention to the fact that disabled people should be part of our society in every situation in life.
How the final design was conceived
The bodies of five people with various disabilities were measured precisely to create polished and lacquered window display dummies in the style of normal dummies – just deformed and thus very different.
Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, these deformed mannequins were placed in shop windows in Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most elegant shopping streets. The campaign successfully fights against the exclusion of disabled by questioning norms. First in Switzerland, now worldwide: In conjunction with the Bahnhofstrasse shops, which allowed the mannequins to appear for longer than planned, there now are several requests (e.g. from New York) to arrange the same event. A local event is becoming a global movement.
