Brief Explanation
It is always hard to capture the spirit of the era.The Industrial Revolution was a time of inventions - the steam engine, photography and cinema changed people’s everyday lives. Georges Méliès and Jules Verne made people believe that technology would make all utopias a reality. Nowadays, nostalgia for that period is seen in the steampunk genre, which acts as a cultural bridge connecting the past of Maiasmokk with the trends of today. This is the approach we took in inventing the distinctive eye candy—a steampunk styled Ferris wheel, decorated with coffee cups and spoons.
The Brief
Maiasmokk is the oldest still-operational café in Estonia. Established in 1864, the beloved café was in need of a distinctive window design appropriate to it’s dignified history.
How the final design was conceived
It was intensive teamwork, where the final design was reached through debates and discussions. An important part of the process was the groundwork and research.
Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
This piece of art is the most photographed window display in Tallinn, which brings joy to city-wanderers and magnetically attracts sweet-tooths and coffee-lovers. After the installation of the wheel, the customers number rocketed up and today it is really hard to find a free seat in Maiasmokk.
