Results and Effectiveness
The press picked up the story. Jordy appeared in almost all Belgian newspapers and was interviewed on different national and international radio stations, generating more than 600.000 euro in earned media. Quite a lot for a country with 10 million inhabitants.
But most importantly, our goal was achieved: We sent out a message that when you work hard and get the right therapy, stuttering can be overcome,
As a result, there was a rise of contacts for The Belgian Association of Stutterers during this campaign.
The Belgian Association of Stutterers now use radio scripts as a real practice technique.
Creative Execution
As the Belgian Association of Stutterers doen’st have a big media budget, we only had 15 seconds radio spots.
So we wanted to create a bigger story, and decided to work in 2 phases.
Phase 1: After his coaching, we started presenting Jordy as a professional radio voice-over to different clients in everyday radiocastings (amongst professional radio actors), without them knowing he used to be a stutterer.
Soon, he was chosen chosen to be the voice-over in a radio campaign for the National Lottery.
The spots with Jory aired on national radio.
Phase 2: We also booked 15 second tag-ons spots after each spot from the National Lottery, in which we heard a personal message from Jordy with a call-to-action to discover a short documentary about his story on www.overcomestuttering.be
Insights, Strategy and the Idea
More than 1 in 100 people stutter. That’s quite a lot.
However, the Belgian Association of Stutterers claims stuttering can be overcome.
Actually, a lot of famous actors and singers, like Bruce Willis and Marilyn Monroe used to stutter.
They overcame their stuttering and even used their voice to do what they do best: acting and singing.
Not enough stutterers realize this, and try to live with their condition instead of following therapy.
We wanted to remind those people that anything is possible, even speaking in a normal way.
To prove this, we coached Jordy, a life-long stutterer, to become a professional radio voice-over. After a year of therapy at the Belgian Association of Stutterers and a month of voice coaching at a professional radio studio, he was ready to become a professional voice-over.
