Brief Explanation

Spring 2016. While Berlin citizens welcome refugees with open arms more and more radicals spread fear spraying Nazi tags all over the city, giving graffiti a bad name. While bureaucracy couldn’t tackle the problem artists took up a stance. Supported by their community's favourite paint they encouraged people to #PaintBack. All over Berlin, people started to paint back. In workshops, the artists taught kids and adults how take out Swastikas, symbols of hate, and turn them into graffiti pieces of joy. Public space itself became the medium. But more importantly: places of fear were turned back into places of joy. And changed the reputation of graffiti once and for all.
