Brief Explanation
The Swell begins in the passenger seat of the car – parked on an empty beach, the Swedish shipping forecast on the radio, door open, a pair of shoes discarded in the footwell. We move towards the water, radio drowned out by the sound of the approaching ocean as we reach the shoreline and out into the surf. Through the water, through the first tentative laps to the thundering crash of enormous waves, out into the darkness until the water is still. A lone figure sits on her surfboard, her windswept silhouette visible only through the moonlight, staring out toward the horizon.
And then it comes. A wave, enormous on the horizon. Her arm takes one swipe through the water as the wave is about to break… and then we cut. Against the black, we hear the thunder of the wave collapsing. The film ends with the line ‘Seek Feeling. The responsive XC60’.
