Brief Explanation
Under the claim “Welcome Back”, a mature man is found to be in search of something very existential: his courage – manifested in his “balls”. Neither his wife nor his son has seen them. After desperately searching the whole house, he finds what he’s been missing in his new car outside the door.
Execution
The direction consistently follows the core of the idea: The desperate search of our protagonist is dryly-observed comedy in which something important, almost existential, is discussed within the family as if it were mundane and ordinary.
The humourous tone is not forced with unnatural performance by the actors or an artificial setting. Instead the camera maneuvers through a lively environment, creating authentic, slice-of-life like situations. The overall approach was to establish a relatable but also unexpected story, as close to a real life situation as possible.
