Cultural / Context information for the jury
Doctor Who first appeared on our screens in 1963, and since then the Doctor has had many different adventures across 14 very different looks. The creative brief and challenge was: how do we translate legacy and current Doctor Who imagery and style into a modern and cohesive collection into an ‘evergreen’ Doctor Who brand that can be used on multiple deliverables from print to digital and more.
Tell the jury about the illustration.
Create an ‘evergreen’ look to the doctor who brand that is simple and timeless.
Doctor Who has a wide fan base and we wanted to target that wide range (from 8 – 80) with the creative. Inclusivity is a major theme of the Doctor Who brand so the creative needed to cater to the super fan as-well as the casual fan.
Focusing on portraiture of the Doctor him/her self and using an illustrative approach to unify picture quality, we created a modular design system that played with the portraits and added stylistic notes of texture, shape, typography, and colour based on each Doctors era and personality.
